City Park Playground Fire

By Major Mike Rouser
June 18, 2010

On Thursday evening crews from LaGrange Fire Department were dispatched to one of our city parks on a possible structure fire with reported multiple explosions at 2300 hrs. Car 4505 was first on the scene to report main electrical transmission lines down with a large part of the parks play ground equipment fully involved in fire. The playground area was covered with a thick mat of ground up rubber mulch, which along with the playground equipment that was constructed with recycled plastic materials, created a lot of heat and smoke. The play ground was directly under the power lines and the flames were tall enough to involve them as well. After it was determined that the service to the lines was down, fire units moved in quickly to extinguish the fire.

Units: Car 4502, Car 4505, Engine 4531, 4532, Tanker 4561, Forestry 4571
