CITIZENS FIRE ACADEMY
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Fire Academy?
It is a free program of several evening classes over ten weeks designed to share information about firefighting and the LaGrange Fire & Rescue Department.

When is the deadline to register?
March for the spring class; and August for the fall class. |
| |
Are there any age limits to attend?
The minimum age is 18. |
| |
What types of people have attended?
All types, including students, retirees, homemakers, as well as people who work in business, government, education and other professions. |

Will I be a firefighter when I graduate?
Becoming a firefighter takes additional training and certification. However, you will have taken a first step by attending the Citizen Fire Academy and becoming interested in firefighting. |

Is it all classroom work?
Not at all. Only about 20 percent of the time is spent in the classroom. The rest of the time is spent observing operations or getting hands-on experience with the equipment.

Do I have to participate in all the activities?
No, only those activities with which you feel comfortable.
