By Assistant Chief Adrian Doleman
September 10, 2019

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at approximately 09:09 AM , LaGrange Fire & Rescue Department along with Oldham County EMS responded to a report of an injury accident involving an overturned semi truck in the median on I-71 NB at the 19 mile marker.

While en route, a large column of smoke could be seen from a distance in which prompted a mutual aid alarm from South Oldham Fire Department for an engine company and Ballardsville Fire Department for tankers.

Upon Fire Department arrival a working fire was confirmed involving an overturned semi truck partially in the median and in the passing lane. Shortly thereafter, it was determined that the lone occupant of the truck was already out of the vehicle. In addition, the tractor portion of the semi was fully involved and the forward portion of the trailer load was on fire. The semi truck was loaded with rubbish/trash.

The fire was knocked down and extinguished utilizing a 1.50" and a 2.50" attack line from Engine 4531.

The occupant of the semi truck was treated and transported to the hospital by Oldham County EMS with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by Oldham County Police Department.
