| On Thursday, February 21, 2008, LaGrange and Ballardsville fire departments responded to Borowick Cirlce on a report of a working residential house fire. Upon arrival, Car 4502 observed a two-story residence confirming a working fire with the structure well involved. Car 4502 assumed Command with Car 4508 taking Operations. With the arrival of Engine 1336 and Engine 4535, crew members initially pulled two attack lines from Engine 1336 with another attack line pulled thereafter. Due to the volume of fire inside the residence, a decision was made to fight the fire defensively keeping all personnel outside the structure. Fire personnel battled the fast moving fire for about an hour before the blaze was brought under control. Fire personnel spent a period of time on the scene ensuring all hot spots were extinguished. Due to a lack of positive water in area (no fire hydrants) tankers from LaGrange and Ballardsville were used to sustain a water supply to fight the fire. In addition, water shuttle crews were hampered by icy road conditions. It was reported that the fire had originated in the living room in the area of the fireplace. The official cause of the fire has not been determined. Despite great efforts by fire personnel, unfortunately the structure and contents were a total loss. All occupants of the residence escaped with no reported injuries. The family two pet cats were rescued by fire personnel. |
