On Friday, April 11th at 0317 hours, LaGrange Fire & Rescue Department and neighboring department Ballardsville Fire Department responded to a report of a working structure fire with a confirmed rescue. LaGrange Car 4503 and 4505 were the first to arrive on scene and reported a fully involved two-story single-family dwelling in a rural area located off of Old Sligo Road. During the initial size-up and walk around of the incident, it was confirmed that all occupants had escaped from the structure and there was no rescue. Due to the efforts of a next door neighbor who was awakened by the fire and placed an extension ladder up to the 2nd floor of the burning building, a female occupant was able to escape the structure without harm. One other person in the home was able to escape from the first floor through the basement.

Strong winds and a large fuel load inside the dwelling were encountered during the operation, which was defensive in nature from the start. Tankers were used from LaGrange, Ballardsville and North Oldham Fire Departments to supply water for suppression.
