A family of three were killed Wednesday morning in a fire at their home in Lexington, Kentucky. Firefighters said there was no indication of working smoke detectors in the structure.

All three occupants had physical limitations and were on oxygen, Lexington Fire Department firefighters told the local ABC affiliate (http://bit.ly/120cHuL). Thought they tried to escape the fire, they were unsuccessful.

The victims were aged 89, 78, and 54. The fire department says the fire started when one of the family threw out smoking materials, most likely cigarettes, that were still lit, into a plastic trash can.
