Louisville, KY (September 16, 2014) – Delivery of concrete beams for the New Moody Lane bridge over Interstate 71 is scheduled to begin next week. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has been reviewing logistics with Oldham County officials to accommodate these large loads traveling through LaGrange.

Intermittent closures will be necessary on KY 53 over Interstate 71 as delivery trucks from Lexington will exit northbound I-71 at LaGrange (Exit 22). The loads will then be moved to southbound I-71 and unloaded at the contractor’s staging area in the interstate median (see map below).

KY 53 will be closed for up to 15 minutes at a time on weeknights beginning Monday, September 22 and continuing through Monday, September 29. These brief closures will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Rolling road blocks will also be necessary on southbound I-71 for unloading the beams. These closures will occur on the same dates between 8:00 p.m. and midnight.

This $9.1 million project will connect New Moody Lane (KY 2857) and Commerce Parkway. The new bridge will be located approximately one mile southwest of the KY 53 interchange at LaGrange (Exit 22).

Construction began in late January and is currently scheduled for completion the fall of 2015. Pedestrian and cyclist facilities will be included on the bridge to connect with the existing trail system on Commerce Parkway. A 10-foot shared use path will be built on both sides of New Moody Lane from Meadowbrook Drive to Commerce Parkway.

When needed, lane closures on Interstate 71 will be restricted to evenings from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
