LFRD Responds to Working Vehicle Fire on Interstate 71

Recently, LaGrange Fire & Rescue Department responded to I-71 NB near the 20 mile marker on a report of a vehicle fire.

Car 4505 arrived on the scene and reported a fully involved vehicle fire. Upon the arrival of Squrt 4531 and assisted by Engine 4534, crew members quickly extinguished the car fire utilizing a 1-1/2" attack hose line.

The occupant of the vehicle indicated to fire officials that while traveling NB on I-71 he smelled a strong odor of smoke in which prompted him to pull over in the emergency lane to check the vehicle out. The occupant advised that once he exited the vehicle he discovered a fire in the engine compartment. The occupant advised that he attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but the fire had grown too large.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
