The LaGrange Fire Protection District serves a population of approximately 18,000 people within a 51 square mile portion of Oldham County, KY. We are one of six individual fire districts in the county. The LaGrange Fire Protection District is primarily residential with a light commercial and industrial base. We are a combination career/volunteer department that operates from three stations.
The district has an ISO Class of a 4 rating and maintains a modern fleet of 17 vehicles. The Department is led into action by Chief Jim Sitzler, who oversees a suppression force of 15 part-time and 32 volunteer firefighters. The career personnel work in three platoons and are available from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday. Volunteers are available at all hours. The district also employs a full-time Administrative Office Manager and a full-time Fire Prevention Officer.
In addition to Fire & Rescue functions, LaGrange Fire & Rescue personnel are trained in hazardous materials, high and low angle rope rescue, swift water rescue and confined space rescue. Many of our firefighters are also nationally registered Emergency Medical Technicians in which the department provides Basic Life Support assistance to Oldham County EMS on an as needed basis. The department is very active in the community, providing fire inspection functions and fire prevention programs.
The LaGrange Fire Protection District is governed by a seven member Board of Trustees. Three of these positions are appointed by the Oldham County Judge Executive, two are elected property owners, and two are firefighter representatives. Our operations budget is funded by a tax base. The current tax rate is 10 cents per $100 of assessed real property value.
